Outside

Grant loves being outside. And loves to drool.

Grant had his 4 month check up this past week. As you can see, he's "slender" (the dr.'s words) and tall. Wonder who he gets that from? We can start giving him cereal whenever we want. It hardly seems possible he's old enough for cereal. I know, I'll be thinking that for the rest of my life. Therapy went a little better this week. He cried, but not as much, and he let the therapist do some things. He is holding his head much straighter. The doctor noticed it and the therapist said he's doing great. I've noticed he's started turning his head to the left more and I even found his head turned that way while he was sleeping (that's a first!). Grant had to come to a circulation meeting with me one morning and he was so well behaved. Everyone commented on how good he was. I have to go to another one this week so hopefully he'll do just as well!

Sleeping Like a Baby

Therapy Round 2

Yesterday was day 2 of physical therapy. Grant did not cooperate at all. He cried or screamed all most all of the time. Most of the session was spent with me holding him and Ann telling me what to do. He did actually smile for a little bit. She put him on an exercise ball and bounced him a little bit. He loved that. For a few minutes. Hopefully next time will be better.

Now that Grant can roll to his stomach, that's pretty much how he sleeps. He's started to bring his knees up closer to his chest and stick his butt up a little bit. I want to take a picture but I'm afraid it will wake him up. He also is turning sideways in the crib and getting his foot stuck between the slats. Fun!

This morning I put him down for his nap. I figured he was a little hungry but thought he was tired enough to go to sleep anyway. He wasn't so after he cried for a while I got him up to eat. He nursed for a couple seconds, then stopped to give me a giant smile. Then he'd nurse for a few seconds and stop to give me a giant smile. Repeat this for quite a few more times. I think he tricked me into getting him out of his crib but it was so super cute.

Physical Therapy

Grant had his first session of physical therapy on Thursday. The PT is so nice and was great with him. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I guess if you're going to be a pediatric physical therapist you better be really good with kids. She moved him around and manipulated his arms and legs. She played with him with some of the toys and watched him try different things. She also took some measurements to track his progress. She said that we're already ahead of the game because we're starting so early and he has full range of motion in his neck, which some torticollis babies do not have. He just doesn't like to use his full range of motion so we need to work on that. She gave us some handouts and had us practice a stretch we need to do with him. Grant needs to have lots of tummy time, which he's not so fond of. But he's a little better about it than he has been in the past. And we noticed Thursday night Grant finally figured out how to move his arm and was completely on his tummy! Now he needs to learn to flip back over so he doesn't wake up mad. Anyway, Grant has to go to therapy every week for the next 3-6 months. Hopefully closer to 3 months since he already has the full range of motion in his neck.

Catching Up

Troy took Grant to get his xrays last week. Grant screamed when they held him down, but otherwise he did ok. The xrays came back normal and we go to our first physical therapy visit next week. We've noticed that he's been holding his head a lot straighter lately, so maybe his neck muscles are loosening up and he won't need much therapy.

Grant laughed for the first time the other day. Troy started shaking his head and making funny noises and Grant laughed every time. So cute!

We had lots of visitors this weekend. Grandma R came to help watch Grant on Saturday while I was at work so Troy could get some things around the house done. Then Grandpa R, Uncle Jared and Jill came on Sunday and we grilled out. Lisa was in town too so she stopped over a while. Grant wasn't quite sure what to make of everyone and that combined with a not quite long enough nap made for a little bit of a cranky baby.

I'm getting really tired of Grant waking up so often at night (he's stirring right now which is what reminded me). Sleep baby sleep! We're going out of town for a wedding 4th of July weekend and leaving Grant at home with my mom. All I can think about is 2 nights of (hopefully uninterrupted) sleep!
