3 Years Old!

Happy 3rd Birthday Grant!

Today we had a special Grant-Mommy-Daddy day. After he opened his presents (the Buzz Lightyear drums were a hit) Leah went to daycare and the rest of us went to the community center to go swimming. Grant was excited to have both of us swim with him and it was a lot of fun spending time with just him. After that we went out for lunch and braved the zoo. It was way colder than we expected so we pretty much walked as fast as we could from building to building. It felt like we had the zoo to ourselves. We hardly saw anyone else and for a while had the elephants and the aquarium completely to ourselves.

At his 3 year check up Grant weighed 33 pounds (65 percentile) andwais 39.5 inches (90th percentile) tall.  He did such a great job and didn't even cry when he got his shot.  Here's last year's quilt picture for comparison.

5 Months

Leah is 5 months old!  She's rolling over from back to front only, can sit on her own for a little while, and has started this new screeching noise.  She loves to watch her brother run around and be crazy and is fascinated when we play board games with him.  She's been getting pretty mad when toys are out of reach so it wouldn't surprise me if she figured out how to army crawl pretty soon so she can get what she wants.  Everything she touches goes in her mouth. She isn't napping well at all at daycare, but she does ok (sometimes) at home.  Here she's wearing an outfit I bought before she was born and I absolutely love it.  Please notice the coordinating socks and shoes. :)

Sibling Love

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit this weekend and we tried to get a picture of the kids together.  As you can see, Grant is in a phase where he loves to have his picture taken.  He doesn't want to look at the camera, usually tilts his head up, and if you tell him to smile he just says smile instead of doing it.  These are the best attempts.

How stinkin cute is Leah?

Maybe we should have turned the tv off for this little photo shoot...

Again, just so cute.

Cereal

Leah had cereal for the first time tonight.  Here she is getting a feel for the high chair.

Maybe this stuff isn't too bad!

She doesn't look as sure in this picture.

Green Number 7, Green Chair

We bought an alarm clock to try to keep Grant from getting out of bed so early in the morning. Each digit is a different color so it's a little easier for him to recognize which one he needs to look at. Every night we tell him he needs to stay in bed until he sees the green number 7. And... it's not really working. I don't know if he forgets to look at it or what, but he gets up and comes out of his room. When we ask him if he saw the green 7 he cries. And cries. But as soon as it really is 7:00 and we tell him to go look, he flips a switch and is SO EXCITED to see the green 7. One morning I sent him back in his room to look and I heard "Mommy, the green number 7 came back!" Maybe one of these days this plan will work the way we want it to.

We never had a bumbo seat with Grant but decided to get one for Leah. She really likes it and here she is the first day, watching football.

Randomness

Today is day 4 home with pink eye.  You'd think I'd have been more productive this week, but no.  I feel like all I've been doing is laundry, wiping everything down with antibacterial wipes, going to the dr and going to the pharmacy.  Oh and trying not to touch my kids.  So here are random things from the week:

-Grant saw something was in the oven and asked what we were having for dinner.  When  I told him it was meatloaf his face lit up, he clapped his hands and jumped up and down.  He was so excited.  Fast forward 20 minutes to when it's time to eat and he has a fit because (insert mad yelling voice here) "I don't like meatloaf!!"
-Grant has told us several times this week and that things look "delicious."
-Grant had a fit because we wouldn't put peanut butter on his grilled cheese sandwich.
-Actually, pretty much every dinner starts with about 20 minutes of Grant having a fit about something, then some kind of switch is flipped and he's perfectly pleasant. That's followed by 40 minutes of slow slow eating.  When he turns 3 next month he magically stops acting 2, right?  Right?
-In preschool they must be talking about choices- good/bad/safe/thumbs up/thumbs down because several times Grant has been mad at me for something and he tells me I'm making bad or thumbs down choices.  Or he says he's going to tell on us (he mostly says that to Daddy).
-Today I saw Grant trying to stand on his digger/excavator thing he got for Christmas.  I told him he should stop or he would break it.  His response: I'm trying to ride it like Bob.  That made me laugh out loud.  And he really was trying to get on it like that too.
-Grant has started wanting to watch Dora.  I hope this is a short phase, I find Dora really annoying.  And he calls Go Diego-"Diego Diego".
-Grant has yet another runny nose.  Today I tried to get him to wipe it himself.  I told him he would need to do it himself at preschool.  His response: Miss Diane can do it.  When I told him Miss Diane might be busy he said: Miss Beth can do it.  Guess he has it covered.
-And not to forget about Leah... she has been laughing a lot more.  Last night Daddy got her to laugh by saying boing boing.
-Daycare closed early the other day due to the snow so I had to pick the kids up.  I called and asked them to have the kids ready so I didn't have to go into any classrooms.  They brought Leah out and put her in her car seat and I started talking to the teacher.  Leah looked at me and started talking and I swear it was like she was saying "Oh hi Mommy, why are you here?"
-Leah filled her pants while I was making Grant lunch.  When I picked her up to go change her poop was dripping out of her pants.  Then when I was trying to change her she kept trying to eat her feet and roll over.  What a mess.
-Leah has discovered she can make a new noise with her mouth.  Kind of like a farting noise.  It's pretty funny.

So basically things are very exciting here.

Leah Update

Leah had her check up this morning.  She weighs 13 lb 8 oz (45th percentile) and is 26 inches long (95th percentile).  What blows my mind is that Grant was almost exactly the same size at this age, yet Leah seems so much bigger.  I thought for sure she would weigh at least a pound more.  I wonder why she seems so much bigger?

Also, Leah rolled over today!  And when I called Daddy to tell him he said, "Yeah, she did it twice yesterday."  So, Leah rolled over yesterday!
